I found a great blog about arthritis pain, one that offers therapeutic and nutritional tips well worth sharing.
Blogger Elaine M. Gallagher suffered two falls within four years, and the bruising from those falls caused her to develop arthritis in both knees.
Elaine found pain relief from Naprosyn (think Advil on steroids), but she developed serious stomach problems.
From her comments, I gleaned that she was physically active prior to developing arthritis—Barre and Yoga classes, and Zumba and Piloxing. Elaine continued the prior two activities but refrained from the latter two.
Still, the pain continued, and Elaine proved her positivity and resourcefulness by learning about natural cures and foods. Here are some gems she shared in her blog.
CBD HEMP OIL. This is an oil that you rub on the problem area. Elaine researched many of the varieties of oil available and concluded that each person needs to research and talk with others who have tried this method of pain relief.
THERAPY TOPICAL CREAMS. For years, Elaine found relief from back pain with Sombra Warm Therapy cream, so she used this product. We can also apply aloe vera and eucalyptus topically on areas where arthritis causes pain. Since they’re not ingested, these topical oils will not cause side effects, but it’s best to find what works for you.
ANTI-INFLAMMATORY HERBS. These include Ginger, green tea and turmeric, which is a savory addition to foods, as well. To avoid side effects, Elaine recommends using these spices in food or beverages rather than taking them orally.
FOODS. For their anti-inflammatory benefits, try fatty fish, garlic, ginger, broccoli, walnuts, spinach, olive oil and grapes. (Not all at once—introduce some of them in your daily diet.)
Elaine continues her exercise without pushing herself and suggests keeping a journal because it encourages healing over time. Above all, Elaine leaves us with one thought. “Don’t be discouraged—arthritis can make you stronger as you fight to get back control of your body.”
